SAIAE Mpumalanga Packhouse Conference Summary: Event Highlights

The South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers (SAIAE), in partnership with South Africa Tourism (SA Tourism), successfully hosted the inaugural SAIAE Mpumalanga Two-Day Packhouse Conference on 26–27 June 2025 at Paradise Creek Lodge, Malelane. The event brought together 82 delegates across two days, including representatives from government, academia (North-West University and University of Venda), and local high schools (Mahhushe Agricultural High School and Suikerland Secondary School).

Conference Highlights

Presentations: Eight (8) expert speakers covered topics such as marketing infrastructure, packhouse standards, automation, agro-processing, and innovation in agriculture.

Keynotes & Motivation: Inspiring addresses were delivered by Ms Faith Mdhluli (Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture), Mr Jomo Mnisi (DEDET), and a motivational talk by Mr Kuda Zumbika (iConsult Engineers).

Youth Engagement: Six learners from local high schools participated, reflecting SAIAE’s commitment to nurturing future agricultural engineers.

Technical Tours: Delegates visited the Tomahawk Multipurpose Packhouse, a local hydropower station, and the Giba Banana Packhouse, gaining practical insights into modern Agricultural Engineering.

Member Recognition: Mr Marius van Rooyen was honoured for his outstanding service to the SAIAE Mpumalanga Branch.
