May we please have your attention!!! It’s that time of the week and you know what that means! The South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers would like to introduce and acknowledge a great contributor to the agricultural engineering industry, whose work has enabled the recent increase of #youthinengineering.
We bring to you, Prof. Jeff Smithers!!!
Jeff Smithers is a council member of the SAIAE!
Jeff holds a B.Sc Engineering (Agric), a M.Sc Engineering and a PhD Engineering, all three obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is also registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
He holds membership positions in the following engineering societal bodies: SAIAE, American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASABE); Pan African Society for Agricultural Engineering (PASAE); International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS); Representative for SAIAE on the Executive Board of the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR); International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) Flood Evaluation and Dam Safety Committee.
He currently holds positions at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Centre for Agricultural Engineering, at the University of Southern Queensland – Australia. Furthermore, he is a part-time Consultant/Senior Engineer, at JG Afrika, Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal. His areas of expertise compromise of engineering hydrology, irrigation engineering, energy in agricultural production systems, just to name a few.
Jeff is a proficient academic, demonstrated his numerous publications including 51 Journal papers; 13 Book sections; 86 Conference proceedings and 42 Research and Consulting report. He has supervised 8 PhD students, 14 MSc Eng students and 12 MSc students, all of which have graduated.
